Opus International Consultants lifted first-half net profit nearly 6 percent, although its results geographically were patchy.

The former Ministry of Works engineering consultancy business posted a $9.9 million net profit for the six months ended June.

However, operating profit from its New Zealand operations fell 5 percent and its Australian operations posted a small loss.

On the positive side, the contribution from its Canadian operations rose nearly four-fold, largely reflecting the recent purchase of a business, and operating profit from its British operations jumped 45 percent.

Chief executive David Prentice said overall, the company was pleased with the outcome.
