The Germany-based dairy co-operative, Molkerei Ammerland has joined Fonterra's Global Dairy Trade, the eighth seller to join the New Zealand-based auction platform.

Global Dairy Trade director Paul Grave said GDT would be able to offer sweet whey powder for the first time in September, when Ammerland begins to take part in the fortnightly auction.

Ammerland gathers milk from more than 2000 farmers in northwest Germany and processes more than 1.5 billion kilograms of milk for sale to more than 50 countries around the world.

Mr Grave said more buyers would benefit from Ammerland's participation. He said GDT is an open platform which any seller can join and the more sellers it has the more transparent the prices are.

Mr Grave said every seller brings more credibility and Ammerland is a progressive company which has invested in new dryers.

He said there are now 650 buyers from around the world who are using the GDT.
