Consumer confidence rises

4:55 pm on 17 April 2014

Consumers continue to feel confident about their own financial situation despite the prospect of higher interest rates

The ANZ Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence Index rose two points between March and April to 134.

The index measuring how people feel right now rose four points to 130, while the index measuring how they feel about the year ahead was unchanged at 136.

ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie says although interest rates are due to rise, consumers are happy the economy is growing, more jobs are being created and the housing market is still buoyant.
