A successful company that specialises in changing waste industrial gas into fuel is shifting its headquarters out of New Zealand.
LanzaTech, which was started in 2005, is taking its corporate base and dozens of jobs to a science and technology park in the American city of Chicago.
More than 30 roles will be transferred but a similar number of administrative roles here will be eliminated. The company says there will still be 20 jobs at a pilot site in New Zealand.
The new US base will also serve as a research and development centre through a new $20 million investment.
The state of Illinois is giving the company tax credits worth more than $US1.1 million over the next decade to help the move.
LanzaTech founder and chief science officer Sean Simpson says the move isn't a reflection on conditions in New Zealand - it's just that parts of the company needed a single location.
