Federated Farmers says the views of its members on reforming and improving the red-meat export trade will be known in the coming weeks.
It has highlighted various options for reform in a questionnaire sent to members.
The options include reassessing relationships between suppliers and processers, and making changes to ties with Australia.
Federation meat and fibre spokesperson Jeanette Maxwell said some things are working well for red-meat exports, but others need improving.
She said better communication and co-operation are needed, especially as world meat exports are expected to rise by 19 percent by 2022.
Ms Maxwell said the survey is almost finished and the federation will assess the feedback in February.
