RBL sales boosted by Carl's Junior

Burger chain Carl's Junior is boosting sales for Restaurant Brands Ltd, but margins are still squeezed.

RBL, which also owns the KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks chains, says third quarter sales rose by $4 million, or 5.4%, compared with the same period last year.

Carl's Junior contributed the most to the sales increase, adding $3.9 million which offset slight declines in the KFC and Pizza Hut stores.

Excluding new stores and closures, sales were relatively flat, rising 0.2%.

Chief executive Russel Creedy says competitive discounting crimped the amount of money it made on sales for the quarter.

He said margins have improved in the first few weeks of trading in the fourth quarter.
