Australian interest rates to remain low

8:04 am on 21 August 2013

The Reserve Bank of Australia has signalled that the official interest rate could remain on hold at 2.5% unless there is a major deterioration in Australia's economic outlook.

The ABC reports that minutes from a board meeting a fortnight ago effectively rule out a rate cut when the board next meets on 3 September. The election is on 7 September.

The rate was lowered to 2.5% on 6 August.
