The Dow Jones Index fell 139 points, or more than 1%, on Friday to 13, 093 after a shortened week caused by Sandy.

The Nasdaq Composite fell 37 points or 1.3%, to 2982.

In Europe, stocks rose after positive jobs numbers from the United States.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index rose 2 points to close 44 60 and the NZX50 index fell 19 points, or 0.5%, to close at 39 13.

The New Zealand dollar on Monday was trading at 82.53 US cents, 79.83 Australian cents, 51.5 pence, 66.39 yen and 0.6430 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.95.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US107.65 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1676. 60 per ounce.
