Kordia could lay off up to 50 staff

State-owned enterprise Kordia could lay off up to 50 staff from its call centre in Auckland under its plan to integrate Kordia Networks and Orcon.

The company says the move will eliminate duplication of network infrastructure and associated support staff across the two operations.

The business will be called Kordia New Zealand.

As part of its plans, Kordia is considering outsourcing Orcon's 50 call centre positions to Datacom's Manila operation, while another nine redundancies are expected.

Orcon will focus on residential and small businesses, while Kordia will work on media, advanced telecommunications services for business and specialised network and internet services.
