NZX index lifts 16 points on Tuesday

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 stock index rose 16 points on Tuesday to 3825 and clawed back some of the ground it lost at the start of the week.

Cornerstone stock Telecom lifted 4.5 cents to $2.39, and its spin-off, telecommunications operations company Chorus rose 1 cent to $3.31.

Sky City Entertainment rose 4 cents to $3.92, Sky Network TV rose 3 cents to $5.05,

Fisher and Paykel Appliances rose 0.5 cent to $1.19, and Fisher and Paykel Healthcare rose 1 cent to $2.17.

Energy company Vector rose 5 cents to $2.85, NZ OIl and Gas rose 0.5 cent to 82.5 cents, Infratil rose 2.5 cents to $2.135, and miner Oceana Gold rose 4 cents to $3.82.

The Warehouse was unchanged at $3.02.

Contact dropped 6 cents to $5.17, and Fletcher Building fell 1 cent to $7.06.

Clothing retailer Hallenstein Glasson fell by 9 cents to $4.61, eroding nearly half its sharp rise of 20 cents on Monday.

Ebos dropped 20 cents to $8.20, and Ryman Healthcare fell 1 cent to $4.06.

Nuplex fell 1 cent to $2.96 after announcing on Monday that it is axing jobs and closing plants.

Ecoya fell 2 cents to $1.28 in spite of forecasting a lift in revenue by 18% this year to break even.

The NZ dollar finished the local business day at 82.33 US cents, 78.86 Australian cents, 50.7 pence, 64.05 yen, 0.6368 of a euro, and the TWI was at 73.04 points.
