NZX 50 falls 10 points on Friday afternoon

The NZX 50 index was steady until lunchtime on Friday, but fell 10 points in afternoon trading to close at 3809 on a turnover of $105 million for the day.

Telecom rose 0.5 cents to $2.335, and Sky Network TV fell in early trading but finished the day up 2 cents at $5.10.

The Warehouse rose 4 cents at $2.97.

Fisher & Paykel Appliances lifted fractionally in early trade but finished the day unchanged ($1.185).

Fletcher Building fell 2 cents during the morning's trade, but finished the day unchanged on its opening ($7.02). Sky City Entertainment slipped 1 cent during early trading, but also finished the day unchanged at $3.88.

Chorus fell 1 cent during the morning and kept slipping to end the day down 3 cents at $3.32, Contact Energy fell 1 cent to $5.28, and Refining NZ rose 4 cents in early trade but finished the day down 2 cents at $2.72.

Ebos Group rose 10 cents to $8.40, Pacific Edge jumped 5 cents to 35 cents,

Methven fell sharply during the morning but recovered sufficiently to be down 12 cents (8.16%) at $1.35 by the close of trading.

Among insurers, AMP fell 12 cents to $5.52, and Tower fell 9 cents to $1.71.

Retailer Kathmandu fell 11 cents (6.29%) to $1.64, and online auctioneer Trade Me finished the day down 5 cents at $3.94.

At the close of business day the NZ dollar was trading at 83.06 US cents, 79.29 Australian cents, 51.07 pence, 64.86 yen, 0.6388 euro, and the TWI was at 73.57 points.
