More people put their homes on the market last month in anticipation of the traditional spring sellers season.

Realestate.co.nz's latest property report shows a 10% increase in the level of listings last month compared with July, and is up 2.4% compared with August last year.

Realestate.co.nz marketing manager Paul McKenzie says although there's been an increase in listings inventory levels are easing.

He says asking prices across the country have risen slightly with Auckland recording its highest asking price ever of $585,000.
