NZX 50 lifts a little more

The NZX 50 share index has risen 5 points, to close at 3461 points on turnover of $70 million.

The Warehouse rose 3 cents to $2.64, while Diligent Board Member Services - whose products include software to assist company directors - rose 2 cents to $3.99, and Goodman Fielder bounced back enough to finish up 1 cent at 62 cents.

Shares in Auckland Airport Ltd shares were unchanged at $2.45.

Some of the best-known shares slipped, such as Fletcher Building (down 1 cent at $5.80), and Telecom fell 2 cents to $2.52, while its offshoot Chorus slipped 1 cent to $3.11.

Contact Energy dropped 2 cents to $4.84, Sky City Entertainment Group fell 3 cents to $3.50, and Sky Network TV fell 2 cents to $4.90.

Bigger falls were recorded by Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, down 4 cents to $1.91, while Freightways dropped 7 cents to $3.81, Mainfreight 10 cents to $9.30, Trade Me fell 5 cents to $3.56 and Abano Healthcare slipped 4 cents to $4.43.

Accounting software seller Xero dropped again, this time by 20 cents to $5.30.

The kiwi shed almost a cent overnight against its American counterpart , but bounced back a little during the day.

Shortly after 5pm the New Zealand dollar was trading at 79.2 US cents, 76.85 Australian cents, 51 pence, 62 yen, 0.6531 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 71.91 points.
