The NZX50 fell 20 points, or 0.6%, to close at 3381 on turnover of $87 million on Tuesday.
Fletcher Building slipped 10 cents to $5.88, Telecom fell 3.5 cents to $2.435, Chorus rose 4 cents to $3.08 and Contact Energy edged down 1 cent to $4.71.
Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $3.40, while Sky Network TV lost 10 cents to $4.85.
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was unchanged at $1.94, while The Warehouse was down 1 cent at $2.51.
Xero rose 8 cents to $4.85 and OceanaGold rose 5 cents to $2.35. Infratil was unchanged at $2.00.
Shortly after 5pm, the NZ dollar was at 78.82 US, 78.7 Australian, 50.63 pence, 62.65 yen and 0.627 euro. The TWI was 71.63.
