Solid Energy chairman John Palmer will step down later this year after almost six years in the role.
Mr Palmer's term is not due to finish until October next year, but he says he will leave the post early, so a new chairman can oversee the company's growth strategy and preparation for partial privatisation.
He strongly supports both initiatives, but says they will create a heavy workload for the board and the chairman, so its preferable the new chair gets well-established as soon as possible.
Mr Palmer joined Solid Energy's board in November 2006, and was appointed as chairman in early 2007.
