Market closes lower on Tuesday

The NZX 50 index fell 29 points, or 0.8%, to close at 3426 on turnover of $17 million on Tuesday.

The New Zealand dollar was buying 77.18 US cents, 77.96 Australian cents, 49.84 pence, 61.4 Japanese Yen, 0.6179 euro and The Trade Weighted Index stood at 70.37.

Fletcher Building was down 7 cents at $6.28, Telecom down 4.5 cents at $2.385 and Chorus down 5 cents at $3.10.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down 5 cents at $2.04 and Fisher & Paykel Appliances down 2 cents at 53 cents.

Sky City Entertainment was down 1 cent at $3.53 and Sky TV was down 3 cents at $4.93.

Contact Energy was down 2 cents $4.71, Auckland International Airport unchanged at $2.47 and Air New Zealand was down 1 cent at 85.5 cents.

Vector was unchanged at $2.63 and Opus International Consultants was up 2 cents at $2.19 after announcing a major contract with Hertfordshire County Council in UK.

Freightway was down 5 cents at $3.70, Mainfreight down 12 cents at $9.75, Kathmandu was unchanged at $1.45, Michael Hill was down 2 cents at $1.00 and Pumpkin Patch up 1 cent at 92 cents.

Trade Me was down 8 cents at $3.76.
