NZ market up

The NZX50 index is up 44 points, or 1.2%, at 3465 on turnover of $49 million on Wednesday.

When the markets closed, the NZ dollar was at 76.16 US, 77.37 Australian, 49.4 pence, 60.1 yen and 0.6095 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 69.45.

Fletcher Building was up 16 cents to $6.30, Telecom was up 4 cents to $2.475, Chorus was up 7 cents to $3.26 and Contact Energy was down 5 cents to $4.74.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was up 4 cents to $2.12 and Fisher & Paykel Appliances was up 2 cents to 53 cents.

Sky City Entertainment was up 6 cents at $3.50 and Sky Television was up 2 cents at $4.92.

Nuplex was up 16 cents to $2.39. On Tuesday it said its full year gross earnings will be flat, because of weak manufacturing and construction markets in Australasia.

Metlifecare was up 1 cent at $2.09. An appraisal report says Metlifecare's proposed takeover bid for two of its retirement village competitors is fair to investors.

Diligent was up 16 cents to $3.41.

OceanaGold was up 18 cents at $2.77.

Telstra was up 1 cent to $4.70. It says it is in talks with Vodafone about possibly selling its New Zealand subsidiary, TelstraClear. But it stresses there's no certainty a deal will be reached.
