Big recruitment campaign by mining company

Rio Tinto is looking to hire more than 6000 workers at 30 sites around Australia.

A recruitment campaign, which is expected to run for four months, was launched by the mining company on Friday.

The ABC reports the bulk of the jobs would be in West Australia.

The company wants to increase the size of its Pilbara workforce, where it already employs 10,000 people, by at least 50% in the next few years.

The West Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the federal government must allow more skilled migrants into the state.

It says increased migrants will reduce the numbers being poached from other industries such as the building trade.
