A report from the Commerce Commission shows customers switch telephone companies for cost effective broadband and mobiles for better rates.
It is the commission's first consumer survey and about 12,000 people answered questions on telephones and about 1000 on mobiles.
The results show the main reason for switching was to get a better and more cost effective broadband.
Cheaper services and better network coverage were the reasons given by those who shifted to a different mobile phone company.
