Wall Street stocks fall

Wall Street stocks have fallen after a much weaker-than-expected report on March US job creation last week.

The US economy added 120,000 jobs during March, far fewer than the forecast gain of 203,000 thousand jobs.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 130.55 points (1%) at 12,929.59.

The Nasdaq Composite slid 33.42 points (1.08%) to 3,047.08.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 fell 12 points (0.4 %) to finish at 3468 before the Easter break.

At about 7am on Tuesday the New Zealand dollar was trading at US82.24 cents, 79.71 Australian, 51.73 pence, 67.16 yen, 0.627 euro. The TWI stood at 73.53.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US122.70 cents a barrel and gold was trading at $US1644.88 per ounce.
