Wendy's withdraws plans to serve alcohol at Christchurch restaurant

Fast food chain Wendy's has decided not to apply for an alcohol licence for one of its Christchurch stores after all.

The hamburger restaurant wanted to sell alcohol from eight in the morning to 11 at night seven days a week in the suburb of Hornby.

The Salvation Army's Ian Hutson said if Wendy's had proceeded with the application it would have established a dangerous precedent and he congratulated local community groups for helping to fight it.

However he was concerned that Wendy's remained committed to obtaining alcohol licences for its family restaurants.
