Dunedin flooding report does nothing to protect in future - residents

South Dunedin residents say the city council's report on last year's flooding does nothing to protect them in future floods.

Torrential rain hit Dunedin in June last year, causing a rest-home to be evacuated and leaving 150 homes without power.

The South Dunedin Action Group says an infrastructure report on the floods released by the council completely misses the point.

Spokesman Ray MacLeod said the report outlined such steps as creating a communications plan and collating social and demographic data, but offered no solutions for unblocking the mud tanks beneath the suburb's gutters or improving pump-station capacity.

The council will meet with the group next month.
