Live power lines are blocking State Highway Two in Western Bay of Plenty after a car crashed into a power pole.
The car struck the pole just before 2pm, bringing lines down across the road and blocking it in both directions.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area as the highway, in the Aongatete area, is expected to be closed for several hours.
Emergency services are at the scene.
