A 5-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a 4x4 ute while riding a bicycle in Tauranga this afternoon.
The incident happened at about 1.20pm today in Matapihi, at the intersection of Matapihi and Waikari roads.
Police said the driver of the ute to tried assist the child, but she died of her injuries at the scene.
No further details are available at this stage.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Police said this would involve a scene examination, witness interviews and examination of the vehicle.
