Teacher unions and the Education Ministry have agreed on a pay rise of more than 6 percent over three years for teachers working in area schools.

The Post Primary Teachers Association said the deal negotiated by it and the Educational Institute would provide a 2 percent pay rise this year and next, and an average rise of 2.5 percent in the third year.

Teachers' Education Council practising certificate fees will also be paid for three years.

The PPTA said the deal still needed to be approved by the unions' members.
