Salvation Army boosts training course success

The Salvation Army has significantly improved pass rates in its education programme, it says.

A recently published Qualifications Authority audit said it was not yet confident in the organisation's education and employment division.

But a Salvation Army spokesperson said the review was completed before the 2015 results were available.

Restructuring of the Salvation Army's education programme has led to pass rates above 60 percent in both categories, the spokesperson said.

The report said 32 percent of teenagers enrolled with Salvation Army Education and Employment in 2014 completed their courses, and 19 percent achieved level 2 of NCEA - well below sector averages.

Pass rates were also below average in 2013.
