Musician sues opera house over hearing loss

A renowned viola player is suing Royal Opera House in London for ruining his hearing and his career during rehearsals of Wagner's Die Walkure.

Chris Goldscheider said his hearing was irreversibly damaged by brass instruments placed immediately behind him.

The sound levels peaked at about 137 decibels, roughly the sound of a jet engine.

Royal Opera House denied it was responsible. About a quarter of its players suffer hearing problems.
