High school students to gain NCEA credits by getting driver's licence

6:52 am on 1 April 2016

From today, high school students will be able to gain NCEA credits by getting their driver licences.

They will gain two credits towards NCEA Level-1 when they pass the learner licence theory test.

Earning a restricted licence will give them four credits towards Level-2, and a full licence will bring them a further two Level-2 credits.

When the Government announced the move last year, Education Minister Hekia Parata said too many young people were missing out on jobs because they didn't have a licence.
