Boeing to cut 4500 jobs after poor sales

The world's largest plane manufacturer plans to cut more than 4500 jobs by the middle of the year to reduce costs.

A Boeing spokesman said most of the layoffs were set to come from its commercial aircraft division, as customers cut back on orders.

The cuts accounted for almost 3 percent of Boeing's workforce, which stood at 161,000 people at the end of last year.

New orders for passenger jets had been falling, and the American company was also losing market share to its rival, Airbus.
