Smelters' holidays case heads to Supreme Court

11:53 am on 18 March 2016

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters will challenge a ruling on employees holiday allowances at the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal last month rejected the company's argument its employees should not get an extra day of leave for a public holiday if the holiday fell on a day they would not normally work, such as a weekend.

Chief executive Gretta Stephens said the decision to go to the Supreme Court was not taken lightly.

She said it was very important to get a final legal determination to resolve the issue.
