A man has appeared in the Manukau District Court this afternoon charged with importing $1.5 million worth of methamphetamine stuffed inside baby carriers.

The 20-year-old Latvian man was arrested at Auckland Airport on Saturday night, after flying in from Dubai.

Customs officers found 1.5 kilograms of meth hidden inside several baby carriers and boxes of neck ties.

Customs investigations manager Maurice O'Brien said the arrest was an example of the multi-layered approach to border enforcement.
