Firefighters have brought a large scrub fire near train tracks in central Auckland under control.

The fire service was called to a grass bank in the suburb of Parnell at about 9.15pm.

Three trucks and 12 firefighters battled the blaze and remain onsite to dampen any hotspots.

A fire service spokesperson said trains had been stopped and overhead power had been cut off.
