A one-month-old baby girl is stable and improving in hospital after a serious assault in Taranaki, police say.
They say the incident happened at a house on Brown Road in Waitara on Friday.
The baby was taken to Taranaki Hospital in a serious condition and later flown to Starship Hospital.
A 29-year-old man appeared in the New Plymouth District Court on Monday charged with injuring with intent to injure, wounding with reckless disregard and breaching a protection order.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on 3 December.
