Three kayakers have been rescued from Wellington Harbour by a local ferry.
One had fallen from his kayak and another had lost a paddle between Petone and Matiu-Somes Island.
A East by West Ferry deckhand, Zack Swift, said the skipper spotted the men in trouble earlier today and asked if they needed help, but they waved the ferry on.
Mr Swift said the crew later decided to intervene when it looked like the kayakers were in a difficult situation.
He said the men were thankful for the rescue.
Police said it was one of several water rescues reported around the Wellington region today.
