Hutt Valley residents are being warned to lock their cars and property, after a spate of thefts and burglaries.
Acting Senior Sergeant Caroline Martin says thieves have targeted garages in the area over the past few days, and people should take precautions.
She says they should lock their cars even when they are in the garage, remove valuables from cars left in the open and not leave a spare key outside.
The police say there have been at least 14 burglaries over a fortnight, and big-screen TVs were also targeted.
