About half the country's petrol tanker drivers are planning to strike in two weeks' time.
First Union says the company Pacific Fuel Haul, which supplies Z Energy and Caltex, has twice reneged on a national pay parity agreement.
It says 180 drivers will refuse to work for four days from 10 October - a strike which could become indefinite if a new agreement isn't reached.
The union says the strike will have a huge impact on petrol supply, particularly in the North Island, and could lead to panic buying.
