Nearly 4,400 drivers in West Auckland were breath-tested over the past three nights during an operation targeting drinking and driving during the Rugby World Cup.

Waitemata Police ran checkpoints in the New Lynn and Henderson areas.

Of the 4,373 drivers stopped and tested, 43 were found to be over the limit.

Waitemata Police Inspector Trevor Beggs said this indicated more people were thinking twice about drinking and driving.
