The family of a cyclist who died after being hit by a truck say they are relieved a coroner's report has cleared her of the blame for the crash.

Auckland woman Jane Farrelly died while cycling with her husband and five friends in Taupo, in 2013.

Coroner Gordon Matenga said Ms Farrelly looked behind her as the truck started to pass, wobbled, and veered into its path.

Mr Matenga said he supported recommendations by the Cycling Safety Panel, including mandatory minimum pasing distances for vehicles overtaking cyclists.

Ms Farrelly's sister, Tina McCullough, has called for drivers to take care when passing cyclists.
