Te Ahi Kaa features the award winning series He Kakano Ahau. In this episode 'Ahi Komau' Kahu Kutia is in the home of  Auckland based rapper Te Maramatanga aka Ranuimarz who reflects on how suicide has impacted his whanau, and how he chooses to draw on his experiences in talking about it through his passion for writing and producuing music. Kahu visits his home in South Auckland and meets his pepe.

Auckland based embalmer and funeral director Rikki Solomon has researched the maramataka drawing on teachings from Rereata Makiha and Kahu heads to Te Wharua o Tūhoe, to the tribal homelands in Te Waimana where she joins her sister Emma Kutia.
