Frankie Knuckles "The Godfather of House"

The "Godfather of House", Frankie Knuckles, died this week at the age of 59.

Heralded as a major protagonist in the evolution of dance music, the Bronx-born DJ and producer transplanted the dynamism of New York's downtown disco scene of the 70s to mid-west America.

Under the shadow of the anti-disco establishment, the electronic-influenced energy of his Chicago clubs The Warehouse, and later the Power Plant, ushered in a new wave of club culture, while his early foray into production produced a series of prototype house records which would prove influential in shaping the sound of dance music as we hear it today.
