1.20 Dire Straits Mark Knopfler on his new album

When Dire Straits broke up in 1995, lead vocalist and guitarist Mark Knopfler continued to make music. He has just released his 10th solo album One Deep River and a special re-recording of Going Home (the theme to Local Hero) which pulls together 60 of his greatest friends including members of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones,The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath, The Shadows, Rush, Guns N’ Roses, and many more. 

Mark tells Charlotte how this incredible project came about and where he finds inspiration for new music.

Splore, a NZ music festival that has been going for 25 years, is taking a break. John Minty from Splore management talks to Charlotte Ryan about the pressures facing the festival and a “challenging” year.

3:15 Irish Comedian David O'Doherty calls in for a chat and a tune

 

Irish comedian, author, musician, actor and playwright David O’Doherty has also appeared on UK television on shows such as QI, Have I Got News For You, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie to You. He claims to be the least famous person ever to have hosted an episode of Nevermind the Buzzcocks.

David performs this month in Wellington and Auckland as part of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival.

4pm The Mixtape: Actor and artist Ana Scotney 

Our guest on the Mixtape this week is actor, director and award winning artist Ana Chaya Scotney.  

Ana’s new play ScatterGun: After the Death of Rūaumoko is about to kick off at Tāmaki Makaurau’s Silo Theatre. It’s already picked up the New Zealand Fringe Festival ‘Outstanding Solo Performance’ and the Sydney fringe ‘Tour Ready’ award. 

Ana is of Jewish, Ngāti Tāwhaki, Ngāi Tūhoe and Pakeha descent. She works as an actress and artist based in Te Whanganui a tara and has starred in Educators, Millie Lies Low, the Aotearoa hit film Cousins and most recently Alice Englert’s directorial debut Bad Behaviour.

Ana joins Maggie Tweedie to share an eclectic palate of music that inspires her creatively.   

ScatterGun: After the Death of Rūaumoko runs from 18 Apr – 4 May at Silo Theatre.
