Goldie's 'Hori Pokai' painting sold for more than $1 million

A 102-year-old painting of a Maori chief with a full facial tattoo has sold for more than a million dollars. That's a far cry from the original 30 pounds nurse Sibyl Carr paid for the painting after the first world war Slightly larger than an A4 sheet of paper - this is the first time Charles Frederick Goldie's potrait of Hori Pokai, has been on public display in more than a century. Auckland's International Art Centre director Richard Thomson auctioned the potrait and several other works of art on Tuesday night. He spoke to Corin Dann.
