Covid-19: Ōtorohanga Mayor calls on community to get vaccinated

From Morning Report, 6:44 am on 26 October 2021

Ōtorohanga's mayor is calling for his community to lift the vaccination rate after two positive cases were identified at the weekend.

The district has the second lowest vaccination rate, ahead of Ruapehu district, with 52.8 per cent.

Max Baxter told Morning Report there was now more opportunity for his community to be vaccinated and clinics in surrounding towns were also an option.

"We have heightened or lifted the level of vaccination opportunity out there, certainly taking some out to the rural community this week, for those who haven't been able to get to town or have chosen not to at this point.

"Please look around and see where those vaccination centres are in Te Kuiti, Te Awamutu, Ōtorohanga, there's plenty of opportunity to get vaccinated if you aren't already."

Baxter expects the level of testing will rise today after the locations of interest were published on Monday night.
