Three waters issue 'not one size fits all' - Christopher Luxon

From Morning Report, 8:23 am on 28 September 2021

The National Party says the government's heading for some hard decisions on it's the controversial three waters reforms because of the huge opposition from councils.

The plan on the table would shift control of drinking, waste and storm water infrastructure from 67 councils into four big regional water entities.

The assets would be managed by entity boards with members appointed with input from the councils and would include Māori representation.

The eight week consultation period ends this week and at some point councils will have to opt in or out.

National Party local government spokesperson Christopher Luxon says the government should either change the law to force councils to join, or scrap the plan and start again.
