Born in Northland in December 1920, 100-year-old Mere Wihongi was among those vaccinated against Covid 19 on the remote Taranaki-King Country border at Mōkau on Tuesday.
Old enough to have grown up with people who experienced the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic firsthand - a virus which killed 9000 New Zealanders - Mere was with grand-daughter and care giver Chrisseann Wihongi at the Tainui Wetere Domain at Mōkau.
Reporter Robin Martin spoke to Wihongi.
