A public health expert is welcoming the news the Covd-19 vaccine could be given to younger New Zealanders.

The Government expects to make a final decision next week on whether the Covid-19 vaccine should be given to 12- to 15-year-olds.

Medsafe has given provisional approval for the Pfizer vaccine to be given to the younger cohort.

The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, says while Covid-19 hasn't generally affected children as much as adults, children can spread the virus, and vaccinating them would help protect everyone.

Public health professor Michael Baker spoke to Corin Dann.
