Marlborough Mayor John Leggett on deadly altercation

The first of those charged over a fatal stabbing in Blenheim will appear in the Blenheim District Court today.

Ten people have been arrested so far after an altercation which left one person dead and two in hospital, in serious conditions.

Police say the altercation, which happened in Market Street about 3.30am on Sunday morning appears to have been between local Recognised Seasonal Employer workers and members of the Rebels gang from outside Marlborough.

Those arrested faced a range of charges, including murder, wounding with intent, assault and disorderly behaviour.

Marlborough Mayor John Leggett says locals are shocked and saddened by the incident.
