Benefits must rise to help Kiwi families in poverty - Auckland City Mission

From Morning Report, 8:23 am on 14 May 2021

The head of Auckland City Mission says is unacceptable that so many kiwi families can't put food on the table and benefits must rise substantially for that to change.

The latest child poverty indicators report shows that one in five tamariki sometimes run out of food to eat at home while one in three live in houses that their whānau can't afford.

Across all the indicators Māori and Pasific and disabled children are more likely to experience the worst outcomes.

Helen Robinson is the chief executive of Auckland City Mission.
