Volunteer mistake behind donation trouble - Māori Party President

From Morning Report, 6:11 am on 13 April 2021

The Māori Party President is blaming volunteers misinterpreting the rules for its failure to declare more than 300,000 dollars in donations.

Any donation of over 30,000 must be declared to the Electoral Commission within 10 working days.

Three gifts above that threshold were made between March and October last year, but were only recently declared to the Commission, which has now referred the Māori party to the police.

The party's President, Che Wilson, spoke to RNZ political reporter Katie Scotcher about what's gone wrong.
