Simon Bridges wants law change for returning terror suspects

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 11 March 2021

The National Party's calling for a law change so New Zealanders are better protected from terror suspects returning from overseas.

The likely arrival of 25-year Suhayra Aden - who is currently in detention in Turkey - has raised questions about this country's anti-terrorism laws and whether they'll provide the level of national security promised by the Prime Minister.

The 2019 law creates Control Orders, which can impose a range of restrictions and obligations; but the person can't be detained on arrival.

National MP Simon Bridges told political editor Jane Patterson it's not enough.
